Soy peptone is an important plant-derived nitrogen source in microbial culture media for engineered strains and other microorganisms. It is produced from nongenetically modified soybeans or soybean meal through enzymatic digestion (e.g., using papain), followed by processes such as filtration, concentration, and spray drying, resulting in a fine, light-yellow powder. Rich in nutrients, it contains high levels of vitamins (particularly thiamine) and substantial amounts of carbohydrates. It can be widely used in the preparation of various culture media, providing essential nitrogen sources, peptides, amino acids, vitamins, and other growth-promoting factors required for the growth and development of engineered strains and other microorganisms.
